Here it is, three months later and it's time for a new editorial.  If you'll remember, in that last editorial I joked about artificially running up a page counter to make it look like my site was getting a lot of traffic.
Well, I found out something interesting about that. Forget artificially running up the numbers: you can simply start your count at any number you want. So, when you go to a site such as "Armadillos" and see that you're the 78,000 visitor, don't believe it.
In case you're wondering, I'll tell you: I started my counter at 1111.  If you go back and check (it's on the very bottom of the home page) and do a little subtraction, you'll find out what visitor you are.  I'll tell you this much: I'm averaging about 35 hits a day.  It's been growing steadily.
I'm happy with 35 hits a day, but it's pretty puny, I must say.  Still, my only advertising has been to get on the search engines.  And there's a story in and of itself.  I have had the hardest time getting my site to show up on certain engines and even a harder time getting certain search requests to yield a high return (that is, high on your list).  For instance, my "American Pie" interpretation is pretty much just that: it should come in right at the top of a search.  But it doesn't on most engines.  Only Hot Bot.  I've tried a lot of tricks, read up on this and that, but still haven't dented the wall yet.
I know the best way to get noticed is to get linked.  I know a couple sites that have now linked to me, but more links are needed.  Why don't you help EntryPoints out and recommend it as a link to another site you like.
As time rolls along, I'm learning just how much work it is to maintain a site.  What makes it especially tedious is I'm doing the entire production on a Macintosh Performa 575 with a 28/8 modem using Netscape Communicator.  Talk about Sa-Low.  Honestly, I can type a letter of text, clap my hands, then type another letter and still beat the computer.  It's that friggin' Netscape Composer that I'm using.  It's slow and painful but, as my good friend Branden Beachy reminds me,  "Uh, how much did you pay for it?"  (I paid nothing...it's a download.)
Anyway, as slow as the process is, I simply let some errors remain on the page.  To heck with 'em, I say.  So, if you spot an error, don't think you're some kind of super sleuth.
I have been getting some email from readers (not enough).  I know that teachers like my site.  Several have commented on Mr. Schnuck, the cartoon.  Sorry they're so slow in coming but my son does the artwork and I the ideas and this process has been very slow to evolve.  Plus, we have had to figure out how to scan them to make the text legible (72 dpi jags fine print to death...we finally discovered using grayscale helps but then that caused problems when filling in colors.)
What's in store for EntryPoints?  More song lyrics analyses (have you check them out yet?  You should.)  Some more essays.  I'm thinking of weighing in on the Clinton sex scandal.  I'm pretty ticked at the American public for not caring.  More teaching tips...probably a column of short ones.
I really do need your input.  Email me.  Tell me what you like.
Okay, I'm rambling.  And I'm outta here.
